Metal Prices 2026

metal prices

The chart shows a strong and rapid rise in metal prices over both the past year and five years, with the steepest increase happening recently.

What was once a fairly stable market has shifted into a period of much higher costs. This steep upward move is due to strong market demand combined with tighter supply and higher production costs.
For me as a jeweller, this is concerning because silver wire and sheet are far more expensive than the raw silver price, due to added processing such as refining, rolling, and drawing. When I began silversmithing it was 70p per gram, today, that same material costs £3.11 per gram.
While this increase is challenging, it also pushes me to work more creatively – adding extra value through innovative design, craftsmanship, and uniqueness, so each finished piece remains special and worth the personal investment.
I’m going to be creating some very special pieces this year despite the increasing metal prices.
